ANNUAL TEA

"DIAMONDS OF EVERGLADES"

Reach Out Everglades honors older women in the community by sponsoring a gala tea for them each year in early May. The tradition dates from 2001 and includes some wonderful antique cups, saucers, and teapots that have been collected by the original organizers.

We marvel at the resilliance and determination shown by these ladies, some of whom grew up in the wilderness of Southwest Florida before there was proper transportation or household conveniences.

LOCAL EVENTS

Reach Out Everglades participates in local events such as the periodic Arts & Crafts sales, Independence Day Parade, and other festive celebrations.

Reach Out Everglades officers often speak on behalf of the community to City and County government to make a case for improved amenities in the area, such as public transportation.

The Reach Out Everglades board meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m.

PUBLICATIONS

Reach Out Everglades published "What's Cookin' in the Everglades", a cookbook full of local recipes, in 2005.

In 2006, it produced the innovative "Evergladesopoly" board game featuring buildings in the area (many of them historic).

In the fall of 2008, greeting cards designed by local school students for the holiday season were available for sale. And, in the winter of 2008 the "Everglades Area Directory, 2008-2009" was published.
